The DJ Obie

For me, DJing was a career that started by accident. A friend came to my house to play Super Smash Bros., and he asked randomly if I would be open to being a DJ at his company. I thought, why not? It sounded like a fun way to meet people, get free food, and drink. Little did I know his company serviced over 170 events a year. This gave me a mountain of experience in a very short time. I DJ’d about 50 events a year. And brides were trampling over each other to have little old me as their DJ. I loved every moment of it.

I felt like a rockstar. Here I was on stage directing a crowd of people and fostering good positive vibes - which is my default setting as a human being. I don’t like people to feel left out because I know that feeling and it sucks. My natural gifts and insecurities combine to make me a wonderful host.

Work felt like recess. It was the first job where being myself was all I needed to exceed expectations. In other words, I was like a fish being put in water for the first time. I became addicted to the freedom and excitement I felt while performing. The kudos and high fives from clients were also an incredible motivator to find ways to get better.

I guess when you do what you love, it shows because quite rapidly I became the most requested DJ in the company, including DJing the weddings and events of my coworkers and their families. After 5 years and over 200 events to hone my skills, I started DJ Obie Entertainment LLC. A company where I get to facilitate love and joy within groups of strangers, friends, coworkers, and family members.
